FT-NIR It is a Fourier Transform Near Infrared Spectroscopy. As in the case of FTIR above, it measures the absorption spectrum of infrared light originating from lattice vibration between atoms, but it measures absorption in the near infrared region. The above FTIR measures the fundamental vibration, while FTNIR measures the overtone, third harmonic and combined sound of the fundamental vibration. Since these absorptions do not become clear peaks, it is difficult to identify simple functional groups and structures such as FTIR. However, FTNIR has the characteristic that it is not affected by water absorption, and may be able to measure the amount of substances contained in food. Therefore, the amount of the substance is estimated from the measurement data of a large number of samples and statistical analysis. Diffuse reflective accessories are used for measurements due to the uneven surface used to handle food. Due to the very low absorption in the near infrared region, multiple reflection ATR accessories are also available. |

easy SEM This is an easy Scanning Electron Microscope. We can use it without stress due to no risk that we drop samples into the vaccum chamber because the vacuum chamber is exposed to air when the samples are exchanged. We can observe big samples using this SEM. However, the magnifying power of this SEM is not very high (the limit is about 20,000). When we would like to observe samples using high magnifying power, we use SEM of Center of Advanced Instrumental Analysis. |

Taste Sensor (SA402B) Taste sensor is able to discriminate and quantify taste of samples. The information of taste is translated to electrical signals using lipid/polymer membrane. The electrical signals are processed by PC for the discrimination and quantification. The measurements are carried out by immersing the sensor probes into liquid sample in a glass cup. Thus, the instrument is basically maintenance-free because the instrument does not include pump and flow system. In addition, if the probes or glass cups become contaminated, it is easilly exhangeable. |

Then, the vapor moves to a column by flowing carrier gas. The organic substances in the vapor are separated by the interaction between the material of column and the substances. Finally, the separated substance is analyzed at the mass detector. In addition, it is possible to indentify the substance by processing the result of mass spectrometry using libraries of mass spectrum data. Mainly, this instrument is used for analysis of odor by Solid Phase Micro Extraction (SPME) method. This instrument can automatically analyze a lot of samples using auto sampler. |

SPFS Measurement System Surface Plasmon field-enhanced Fluorescence Spectroscopy (SPFS) is a measurement method of fluorescence which is excited by surface plasmon enhanced field. Femtosecond tunable pulse laser system This is a combination of a Soltice Ace femtosecond integrated regenerative amplifier with built-in titanium sapphire laser MAITAI and an optical parametric amplifier TOPAS. TOPAS converts 800nm femtosecond pulse laser light into 300nm-10000nm pulse laser light. Since the pulse width is very short, femtosecond, the peak intensity of the light is very high, and nonlinear optical effects can be easily generated. In addition, since the irradiation time is femtosecond, the irradiation ends before the irradiation energy is converted into heat. |

Sum frequency generation spectrometer Sum frequency generation spectrometer (handmade) using the above femtosecond variable wavelength pulse laser system. A fixed wavelength visible light of 800 nm and a variable wavelength infrared light of 2500 nm to 10,000 nm are incident on the sample surface, and the sum frequency light generated there is analyzed spectroscopically. By controlling the polarization of visible light, infrared light, and sum frequency light, the orientation of molecules at the interface can be evaluated. |
